Pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered at Fordham University's Lincoln Center campus in Manhattan's Upper West Side on Wednesday, setting up a small encampment inside the university's Lowenstein building. The demonstration drew more than 50 participants who protested outside the encampment, with New York City Police officers establishing a barrier around the perimeter where the demonstrators were located.
The group vocalized their support for Palestine by chanting 'free free Palestine,' and one demonstrator held a sign that read 'anti-Israel is not antisemitism,' advocating for a ceasefire and urging the university to divest. Fordham officials promptly issued a safety alert to students, notifying them of the ongoing demonstration at the Lowenstein Center.
In response to the situation, the university decided to close the entrance to the Lowenstein Center, requiring students, faculty, and staff to present their Fordham ID for access to the campus. The demonstration highlighted the passionate views surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the call for action from various groups.
