Pro-Palestinian Demonstrators Form Encampment At George Washington University

Pro-Palestinian Demonstrators Gather Outside The White House, in Washington

George Washington University has recently become part of a growing trend where Pro-Palestinian demonstrators are setting up encampments on school campuses. Videos posted by The GW Hatchet student newspaper captured the scene.

The encampment was organized by students from various universities in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia, under the banner of Students for Justice in Palestine. According to an Instagram post by the coalition, the encampment serves as a united demonstration to demand financial transparency, boycotts and divestment from the Zionist state, and an end to what they perceive as racist repression against pro-Palestine students.

George Washington University acknowledged the presence of approximately 50 students, along with 20 tents, on the University Yard, including non-students. The university reported that the protest has so far remained peaceful.

In response to the demonstration, the George Washington Police Department officers and other university officials have been actively involved. The university is also in coordination with the DC Metropolitan Police Department to manage the situation.
