PRO-PALESTINIAN protesters are staging a sit-in at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war.
Arts Workers for Palestine Scotland gathered at the museum with placards and Palestine flags on Friday afternoon.
Police arrived on the scene, as museum staff stopped any further guests being allowed into the museum.
Some museum attendees shouted at protesters as the demonstration led to the daily organ recital being cut short whilst other members of the public cried, with one telling The National, "how can you not get emotional when you see something like this?" whilst pointing to the action.
The group repeated the chants “Be free Palestine”, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free”, and “Resistance is justified when the UK supports genocide.”
The demonstration, which was meant to last for an hour and a half, stopped after half an hour as the group exited the museum and read poetry by Palestinian writers outside.
It comes after the group organised a sit-in at Glasgow Queen Street train station on Monday, and on Wednesday, demonstrators gathered outside the Scottish Parliament to read the names of “7028 murdered in Gaza”.
In a statement, the group stated: “We stand here today, reading aloud the names of the 7028 murdered in Gaza as a protest against the dehumanisation of the Palestinian people.
“We know that many more have been brutally murdered since this list was released with the death toll now rising beyond 10,000 people.
“As we bear witness to the ongoing genocide, ethnic cleansing, occupation, collective punishment, and humanitarian crises in Gaza enforced by the state of Israel and supported by Western governments, we urgently call on all Members of the Scottish Parliament to publicly join with the First Minister’s demand of an immediate ceasefire, and to apply pressure to their Westminster peers to do the same.”
