Pro-Palestine activists cut off electricity at factory with ties to Israel

PRO-Palestine campaigners have cut off the electricity supply at a factory in Edinburgh which produces components used by the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) in Gaza.

Protesters said Leonardo UK makes components for F-35 fighter jets, which are used by Israel in its bombardment of Gaza.

On Thursday, activists from campaign group Palestine Action cut off electricty at the company's factory at Crewe Road North in the capital, as a spokesperson said: "No electricity equals no weapons production."

It comes as Israel resumed heavy strikes across Gaza on Tuesday, shattering a ceasefire that had halted the war and facilitated the release of more than two dozen hostages.

Palestine Action has targeted Leonardo's Edinburgh factory before – most recently in December, when around 100 activists blockaded the entrance to the site.

The group said it currently has 19 members serving sentences in jails across the UK for their action.

A Palestine Action spokesperson said: “With Israel changing tactics again, from inflicting a slow Genocide on the population of Gaza, through starvation, to bombing the civilian population, in the middle of the night, while they sleep in tents and shelters, we must escalate our campaign against the murderous arms makers.

"Keir Starmer’s silence has been paid for, but Palestine Action will do everything we can to stop the slaughter. With every hour the weapons factories are shut down, Palestinian lives are saved.”

Overnight on Wednesday and into Thursday, Israeli strikes killed at least 58 Palestinians across the Gaza Strip overnight and into Thursday, according to three hospitals.

The strikes hit multiple homes in the middle of the night, killing men, women and children as they slept.

We told how a 25-day-old baby girl was pulled from the rubble of a collapsed apartment building in Gaza on Thursday after her parents were killed an Israeli air strike.

Gaza's health ministry said more than 600 people have been killed since Tuesday, most of whom were women and children.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were carrying out enquiries into a fire in the Crewe Road North area reported around 1.40am on Thursday, 20 March, 2025.

“The fire is being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing."
