Voluptuous vamp met cool Old Hollywood glamour as Priyanka Chopra graced London’s Theatre Royal red carpet last night.
For the premiere of her latest series Citadel, coming to Amazon Prime on April 28, the former Bollywood actress took a swing at the bombshell leading lady look — and styled it with ease. Chopra also took the moment to make a nod to London’s rich fashion history.
Her ruby satin, off-the-shoulder gown that came with a tight boned corset and pooling, floor-length skirt is a signature design of the late Vivienne Westwood, the maverick fashion designer who passed away in December last year. Westwood’s corsets — first shown for her AW88 Stature of Liberty collection — are a lasting reminder of the indelible mark she left on fashion, and her unique ability to bring icons slap bang into modern day.
Chopra more than proved the timelessness of Westwood’s designs, as she joined her husband since 2018, Nick Jonas, as well as co-stars Richard Madden, Stanley Tucci, and Lesley Manville on the carpet. They acted as the perfect monochromatic foils.
Jonas, who packed on the PDA for the cameras, was more reserved in his outfit and looked sleek in a black suit with statement looped-fabric lapels and matching black polo neck.
Man of the moment Madden also kept things traditional, wearing a midnight-blue-hued velvet blazer paired with a black shirt, classic trousers, and box-fresh black boots, while Tucci opted for double-breasted tailoring with silver buttons, a white shirt, and black tie.
It was, then, shamelessly all about Chopra. On the carpet, she explained to reporters: “My look is an homage to my character’s red dress in Citadel. Since we are in London, Vivienne Westwood. It had to be a red dress.”
Will Westwood become the new uniform for anyone flying in and doubling down on the London look? Perhaps, and that might not be the worst thing.
