A prison worker has been taken to hospital after falling down a manhole at HMP Inverness.
The alarm was raised on Wednesday morning after the staff member plunged down the manhole cover at the jail. Scottish Fire and Rescue crews were called to assist in the rescue. A team from Aberdeen used a ladder, a high-reach appliance and a stretcher to bring the injured member of staff to safety.
The casualty received first aid from paramedics before being taken to hospital with minor injuries.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were called to Duffy Drive in Inverness at 9.24am today after receiving a report of a person falling down a manhole cover. Crews mobilised a heavy rescue team from Aberdeen.
"A high-reach appliance, a ladder and stretcher were used to bring the injured person to safety."
A Scottish Prison Service spokesperson added: "A member of staff suffered minor injuries in a fall. The individual received first aid at the scene before being taken to hospital as a precaution."
