Prison escapee found after seven weeks on the run

A minimum-security prison escapee has been found in regional Victoria after almost two months on the run.

Daniel Briffa was found at a Ballarat East home on Thursday morning and arrested without incident, police say.

He escaped the minimum-security prison at Trawalla on September 4.

The 50-year-old has been charged with escape and will face Ballarat Magistrates Court on Thursday afternoon.
