Printworks London has announced the line-ups for its closing weekend, with artists including Black Coffee, Peggy Gou and Camelphat.
The season kicked off on February 4, with many events selling out well in advance. Some of the biggest names in dance music have been gracing the famous Press Halls and Inkwells stages for one last time.
The Evening Standard’s former printing works opened its doors as a music and events space in 2017 and quickly became one of the most highly regarded venues in London, hosting over 3,000 artists and some of the biggest labels in dance music. Highlights include Hospitality, Defected, ANTS, Solid Grooves, Paradise, DnB Allstars and the Belfast-born AVA Festival.
As well as attracting top DJs from around the world, the space also became a hub for emerging artists, bands, experimental talents and events. These factors led to Printworks regularly featuring in annual lists of best nightclubs worldwide.
The 6,000-capacity Surrey Quays nightclub, which is run by Broadwick Live, will close its doors after Southwark Council approved plans for its renovation into offices earlier in the year, making it the latest victim in London’s rapidly eroding club scene.
Ahead of the farewell, director of entertainment at Broadwick Live, Matthew Johnson said: “Printworks as a cultural institution has impacted London, the UK and even further afield in its time. It has been a rare opportunity to unite the music community on such a grand scale, creating a real, meaningful and long-lasting community that extends further than the venue’s walls. Printworks’ legacy has been cemented, and will live on long into the future.”
The final weekend will feature artists including Grammy Award-winning DJ Black Coffee, and Grammy-nominated Liverpool duo Camelphat, who both make their Printworks debut ahead of its closure.
Kicking off the last hurrah on April 28, BBC Radio 1 Dance takes over the venue, with Black Coffee headlining proceedings. The globally acclaimed South African DJ will have his set streamed live as a Radio1 Essential mix. Maya Jane Coles also plays, plus AMÉMÉ as well as some of BBC Radio 1 Dance’s big names including Danny Howard, Sarah Story, rising 1xtra selector Jeremiah Asiamah and plenty more across the show.
Saturday April 29 sees Camelphat take over Printworks for the first time. One of the biggest acts in dance music, the pair will finally make their performance debut at the London venue, after they previously recorded in the space for Radio 1 Essential Mix.
German DJ Stephan Bodzin also features on the line-up, plus the groovy Swiss duo Adriatique. Italian-born techno duo Mind Against also make an appearance, known for their experimental sets and hypnotic stage productions.
Closing Weekend Announced.
