Pringles popularity boosts UK sales at Kellogg's despite cereals fall

The continued popularity of Pringles has helped Kellogg's rack up sales of almost £930m in the UK, new documents have revealed.

The US giant, which has its largest UK factory in Trafford Park, Greater Manchester, added that its cereal sales fell from their high point during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The group operates two UK businesses, Kellogg Marketing and Sales Company (UK) and Kellogg Company of Great Britain, which are both headquartered at MediaCity in Salford.

According to newly-filed accounts with Companies House, Kellogg Marketing and Sales Company (UK) achieved a turnover of £801.2m in the 12 months to January 1, 2022, up from the £797.1m it posted for the prior 12 months.

Its pre-tax profits also increased from £19.4m to £21.1m over the same period.

New documents for Kellogg Company of Great Britain also show its turnover increased from £125.5m to £128m while its pre-tax profits went from £8.5m to £9.3m.

A statement signed off by the board for Kellogg Marketing and Sales Company (UK) said: "In 2021, the company's turnover increased compared to [the] prior period due to a growth in sales within the UK market and overseas.

"Growth in turnover was driven primarily by an increase in snacks net sales, led by sustained momentum in Pringles, driven by innovation, effective advertising and successful consumer promotions.

"Cereal net sales declined due to lapping a pandemic-related surge in consumption growth during the prior period.

"Reported operating profit increased primarily due to the overall higher net sales, which was driven by both volume and price mix.

"The directors are confident that with the pipeline of commercial initiatives, product innovation and various growth and efficiency programmes, the business will be well positioned for the future."
