After a two–year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic the principals for Guid Nychburris 2022 have been unveiled.
Wednesday night saw the long-awaited return of the biggest event in Dumfries as the principals were announced at the Usual Place in the town.
Kady Kirkpatrick has the honour of being the first ever Queen of the South from the North West Community Campus. Her attendants are Derri Love and Casey Gilmour with Kloe Turner and Carys Wilson her key-bearers.
Kady said: “I’m delighted to be here in front of you tonight.
“I’m excited to meet you all and take part in the festivities.”
Ross Findlater is this year’s cornet. The 23-year-old said: “I’m very honoured to be your cornet for 2022, we eventually got there!”
His lass will be Robyn Peden who said: “For the past two years I’ve been Cornet’s Lass Elect and I’m so excited for the year ahead and I’m glad it’s finally happening.”
The lynors for 2022 will be Robert Neill, Cameron Robertson, William Black and Ross Boyd.
Ranjit Thomas is the pursuivant with Lewis Fraser the courier for this year.
In a break from tradition there will be a choir this year instead of a singer.
Joyce Reekie said: “In this jubilee year we’ve a unique treat for the Queen of the South.
“We will join vocal forces in the town’s favourite song. We’re still recruiting for the choir and past singers for the Queen of the South are welcomed to join us to make this a moment to remember.”
Provost Tracey Little said: “Some of my favourite memories as provost have been at Guid Nychburris.
“Treasure every moment because you will never forget it.”
