Princess Kate stuns fans with exquisite Coronation dress and late Queen's diamond necklace

Kate Middleton wore a custom made Alexander McQueen silk gown for the King's Coronation, but keen royal fans were forced to wait to see the design of the elegant dress as it was hidden underneath a formal robe.

Kate's stunning floor length gown featured a slight A-line skirt, and the hem was detailed with silver bullion and thread work featuring rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock motifs, the Express reports.

The newly released official Coronation portraits show the embroidery continues around the cuffs of the long sleeves and across the shoulders and chest of the gown as the delicate neckline sweeps into a curved V shape.

It's suspected the Princess took some fashion inspiration from the late Queen Elizabeth II for her dress, whose own coronation gown also featured national flowers.

Similarly to the late Queen, who was dressed in Norman Hartnell for both occasions, Kate also chose her wedding dress designer, Alexander McQueen to create her coronation gown.

Fans were blown away after Kate's entire dress was finally revealed and hundreds rushed to social media to gush over her choice of outfit.

One person said: “WOW stunning and regal and beautiful and graceful and tons more other stuff I can say!!” Someone else echoed: “Kate steals the show, as always. She’s so beautiful and elegant”.

A third added: “I would swear Kate is wearing a different dress. The neckline is 200 percent different than the neckline on the day. And now she is suddenly wearing that necklace? Confused."

Underneath the Princess' regal blue robe was a statement necklace that previously belonged to Her Majesty. The exquisite three strand diamond necklace is called the George VI Festoon Necklace and was commissioned by King George VI for his eldest daughter in 1950.

The piece originally was made from 105 loose collet-set diamonds from the royal vault and was designed by Garrard, the official royal jeweller. Three years later, however, Elizabeth, who was now Queen removed ten of the diamonds from the long necklace to shorten its length.

Despite her diamond collection having vastly increased since 1950, the George VI Festoon Necklace was a personal favourite of the Queen's and she wore it regularly.

The late former monarch was seen publicly wearing the jewellery piece 12 times with the majority of occasions being state visits to other countries but this is the first time the necklace has been worn by Kate.

Kate was also given Princess Diana's pearl and diamond earrings to wear that featured a horseshoe set with baguette diamonds and a pearl drop suspended from the ear.

To complete her dazzling accessories, she wore a sparkly headpiece which was created by Jess Collett and Alexander McQueen.

It's been reported that King Charles and Queen Camilla decided to not have the Princess or Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh wear an official tiara at the historical ceremony on May 6.

Hence why, Kate opted for a mesmerising silver-three-dimensional leaf headpiece made from crystals instead.

For the ceremony, Kate's gown was hidden beneath by a deep blue silk satin floor-length cloak that was edged with scarlett and lined with white silk taffeta. The robe also featured a hand-embroidered badge and hood attached to the right shoulder.

Over the top, she wore a deep blue Royal Victorian Order mantle edged in scarlet.

The late Queen made the Princess a Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order (GVCO) in 2019 and she is now entitled to wear the Grand Cross Mantles of the Royal Victorian Order.

On her feet, Kate chose her reliable pair of Gianvito 105 White Leather Pumps from Gianvito Rossi.

These shoes seem to be a personal favourite of Kate's as she has many of the same style in wardrobe which are all different colours.
