A former friend of Diana has said the late princess would not have been a "fan" of Meghan Markle.
The late royal's diarist TIna Brown believes she would have viewed the former Suits actress as someone who is "steering Harry in a direction that was not good" for him.
“Diana was very protective of her boys. She would have been very, very protective of Harry and I believe very anxious about this direction [Harry and Meghan] have taken," she told The Daily Beast.
She added that she didn't think "Diana would have been the great fan of Meghan that Meghan herself might perhaps imagine".
However Ms Brown, who has written a number of books on Diana, believes the Princess of Wales would have been "thrilled" when the pair met, seeing her son "was happy".
"She would have been delighted, supportive and thrilled someone of mixed race was joining the royal family because Diana was so inclusive," she said.
Yesterday marked the 25th anniversary of the Princess of Wales's death at the age of 36, in a car crash in Paris.
Princes William and Harry are believed to have paid their respects privately and separately rather than together in public as in the past.
Ms Brown said Diana would be "very unhappy" that her two sons remain estranged. She added that she always thought Harry would be there to support William when he became king.
Ms Brown revealed to The Daily Beast how much Diana used to hate the month of August because her sons spent their holidays at Balmoral. When Ms Brown asked why she couldn't go too, Diana said her being there brought too much attention, with "paparazzi helicopters flying overhead" causing "misery" for everyone.
One of the reasons she stayed with Dodi Fayed the summer she died, Ms Brown explained, was because he had bodyguards, boats and helicopters making it easier, in her view, to avoid the press. "But of course on that awful night the opposite was true", Brown added.
Ms Brown recalled how she had been at home on Long Island, New York, when she heard the shocking news of Diana's death. She described being stunned, saying she had felt it was inconceivable and unbelievable that the princess was dead.
The diarist believes Diana would have been an even bigger celebrity today if she had lived, with "billions" of followers on Instagram and a charitable foundation as big as Bill Gates'. She said Diana was the forerunner of the global humanitarian celebrity outreach that others like Bono and the Clooneys have emulated since.
Ms Brown said there's no conspiracy behind Diana's death - it was a terrible accident involving a drunk driver and chasing paparazzi. She thinks Diana would probably still be alive today if she had worn a seatbelt.
