Princess Charlotte has ambitious plans for a hobby that runs in the family - the sporty young royal wants to win gold as a hockey player.
The seven-year-old is said to have been inspired by the England women’s hockey team, who celebrated a 3-1 victory over India on Tuesday at the Commonwealth Games. Charlotte would be following in her mum’s footsteps - the Duchess of Cambridge was a keen field hockey player in high school and has picked up a hockey stick at several royal visits since, including joining in with the GB women’s hockey team practice.
Ama Agbeze, a Commonwealth Games gold medallist with the England netball team in 2018, told BirminghamLive : “Kate and William were at the hockey. And Charlotte was saying she wants to play hockey.”

She added that Kate had previously told her Charlotte enjoyed playing netball, leading to international netball star Ama jokingly trying to persuade the Duchess to encourage Charlotte back to the sport. “I was saying, ‘she has to play netball!’” she recalled.
“If she plays every sport under the sun, that’s incredible,” she added. “If Princess Charlotte is sitting there thinking ‘I want to do this’, how many other children are watching and saying, ‘this is an opportunity for me, I’m going to take up that sport’?”
Hockey and netball aren’t the only sports that Charlotte is interested in. The young royal recently recorded a good luck message with her dad Prince William to England’s Lionesses, ahead of their historic win in the Women’s Euro final at Wembley.
William told the team on a trip to England’s training camp that Charlotte is a keen footballer - with particular talents as a goalie. "Charlotte wanted me to tell you that she’s really good in goal,” William said, dubbing his daughter a “budding star for the future”.
