Eagle-eyed Royal Family fans have claimed that the brooch Princess Charlotte wore to Queen Elizabeth II's funeral was inherited from her great-great grandmother the Queen Mother.
Charlotte, 7, wore a delicate silver horseshoe pinned to the lapel of her black coat when she attended the State Funeral at Westminster Abbey on Monday, in a subtle tribute.
After royal enthusiasts spotted this, it was yesterday revealed that the brooch was actually a gift from her 'Gan-Gan' - the Queen - and was a fitting nod to the long-reining monarch's love of horses.
Fans of the firm have now noted it also looks identical to one that was owned by the Queen Mother, Queen Elizabeth, in the 1920s. In fact, it is thought that she herself received the sparking silver pin as a gift from her mother-in-law, Queen Mary.
Taking to Instagram to explain the history behind the sweet meaning of the brooch, user @histroyfamousjewels wrote: "At the funeral of QEII [Queen Elizabeth II] Princess Charlotte of Wales wore a small diamond horse shoe brooch.
"The BBC states that it was a gift from HM QEII to the Princess. Fellow poster, Franck @britishroyalfamilywealth recognised that it is a brooch worn by Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother in the 1920s.
"Franck also noted that Leslie Field stated that the brooch was given to QEQM [Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother] by Queen Mary.
"I would like to pay tribute to the composure of the young Princess during what must have been an overwhelming experience.
"Isn't it delightful to know how jewels are passed down through the generations!"
People have taken to comment at just how wonderful the gesture of wearing the brooch is, as one person wrote: "Makes this so much more special for sweet Princess Charlotte, something she will treasure forever!"
And another said: "That’s so precious."
A third applauded the princess, saying: "I love everything the way Princess Charlotte presented herself."
The Queen Mother, who married King George VI, then Duke of York, in 1923, wore the gem covered horseshoe brooch for a portrait taken in 1929.
The Royal Family have often used their choice jewellery as a way to pay tribute to the Queen.
And this was the only piece of jewellery that the Prince and Princess of Wales' daughter was wearing.
In 2018, Kate Middleton, 40, was quoted as saying that her daughter had inherited the Queen's passion for horses.
During the funeral, the Princess of Wales' mum also honoured the Queen by donning two pieces that once belonged to the late monarch, her husband's grandmother.
From her ears dropped a pair of Bahrain pearl drop earrings, and a four-strand pearl choker with a centre diamond clasp adorned her neck.
Both of these items were from the Queen's personal collection. The Queen herself previously wore the choker for a state banquet in Bangladesh in 1983, and the Bahrain earrings were a gift to the Queen for her wedding in 1947.
The pearls of the choker were reportedly a gift from the Japanese government - possibly acquired during the 1970s - when she made a state visit to that nation. And the necklace was constructed by Garrard.
