Princess Charlotte, 6, alongside her older brother Prince George, 8, made a rare public appearance today at their great-grandfather the Duke of Edinburgh’s memorial service at Westminster Abbey.
The siblings are currently on their Easter break from school and took the opportunity to pay their respects, especially as they were unable to attend the funeral last April due to Covid-19 restrictions. However, their youngest brother, Prince Louis, 3, did not join the family affair as it was deemed that the toddler was too young.
They joined 1,800 guests, which included foreign royals, prime minister Boris Johnson, and 500 representatives from the late Duke of Edinburgh’s various patronages and charities. Also in attendance were their cousins Savannah, 11, and Isla Phillips, 10, the children of Peter Phillips, and Mia Tindall, 8, who accompanied her parents Zara and Mike Tindall.
Charlotte was seen holding hands with her mother, the Duchess of Cambridge – who was sporting an Alessandra Rich gown costing £1,495 – as she entered the church. The young royal wore a navy blue regiment style coat to honour her great-grandfather, who was Colonel-in-Chief of the Rifles Regiment from 2007 until 2020.
The coat was also embellished with silver buttons featuring the same Bugle Horn cap buttons that are worn on the uniform of riflemen. It was a sweet tribute that was mirrored by Kate, who pinned a silver Bugle Brooch to her polka dot dress.
The mother and daughter’s matching style comes weeks after an insider told Life & Style that Princess Charlotte is fast taking after her royal mum for her love of fashion, and that there’s one accessory in particular she can’t get enough of. “Charlotte has an eye for fashion and is obsessed with sunglasses. When Kate can’t find a pair, they’ll often be found in Charlotte’s bedroom,” said the insider. “Charlotte already has a little collection of high street kids sunglasses at home.”
It’s a passion we’re sure to see more of as the young princess comes of age and starts taking on more royal duties.
