Princess Beatrice becomes tearful at grandfather Prince Philip's memorial service

Princess Beatrice shed tears at her grandfather Prince Philip's memorial service today as she gathered with other members of the Royal Family to celebrate his life. Whilst the congregation sang hymns, the 33-year-old wiped tears as she sang along at Westminster Abbey.

Beatrice, who welcomed her first child, Sienna, just six months ago, was seated next to her cousin Prince William, and her sister, Princess Eugenie. During the memorial, the Princess put her hands up to her face to wipe the tears away, OK! Magazine reports.

Sienna did not make an appearance at the memorial, but Princess Beatrice arrived with her husband, Edoardo Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi. The pair married in 2020 in a private ceremony at All Saints Chapel, Royal Lodge, Windsor.

Beatrice's sister, Princess Eugenie, attended the event with her husband, Jack Brooksbank. The pair left their son, August, who was also born last year, at home.

After returning from their controversial tour of the Caribbean, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were seen arriving at Westminster Abbey, along with two of their two children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. Their youngest child, Prince Louis, is not at the occasion.

There are other children at the event, including Peter Phillips' two daughters, Isla and Savannah Phillips, and Zara and Mike Tindall's eldest daughter, Mia. Sophie, Countess of Wessex, and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, have brought their children, Lady Louise and James, Viscount Severn.

Today's memorial is a celebratory service of Thanksgiving which reflects on the life led by the Duke of Edinburgh. Prince Philip passed away shortly before his 100th birthday on April 9, 2021, and spent more than 70 years by The Queen's side as her husband.

Prior to the service, Buckingham Palace released a statement, detailing what it would entail. The Palace said that the memorial would "recognise the importance of [Prince Philip's] legacy in creating opportunities for young people, promoting environmental stewardship and conservation, and supporting the armed forces.

"The service will in particular pay tribute to The Duke of Edinburgh's contribution to public life and steadfast support for the over 700 charitable organisations with which His Royal Highness was associated throughout his life."

“The Queen has also been actively involved in the plans for today’s Service of Thanksgiving, with many elements reflecting Her Majesty’s wishes,” a spokesman said.

Paying tribute to her wedding to Prince Philip during the service, orchids from the bouquet Her Majesty held on her special day will be included among the flowers.

Known as eryngium or 'sea holly', the spiky blue flowers, will represent his naval career and lifelong love of the sea. Meanwhile, arrangements of the flowers will be in shades of red, white and blue, reflecting the Duke's devotion for England.
