Princess Anne's 'stomach-churning' breakfast as she prepares for Coronation role

The Princess Royal is considered the hardest-working royal in the family, as she carried out a whopping 214 engagements in 2022 - despite losing her mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

With Princess Anne set to enjoy a prominent role in the coronation this weekend, her busy schedule shows no signs of slowing up, reports the Mirror.

Anne will act as a "personal aide-de-camp" to the King this weekend, riding behind the new King and Queen on horseback after the coronation.

So, how does the Princess Royal keep herself going throughout the day with such a hectic plan ahead? Like her brother, the King, Anne is noted to skip lunch often, so she needs a decent-sized breakfast to get her through long days of engagements across the UK.

The Princess is said to favour practical, healthy and vitamin-rich foods over rich and indulgent meals - which means no greasy fry-up English breakfast.

However, there is one aspect of the Princess' diet that is unusual - which is the way she eats her bananas.

According to Palace staff, Anne is said to start her day with a bowl of fruit, which is not your typical fruit salad.

It has been claimed that Anne has a strange request for her bananas, as she prefers them to be overripe, and even going mouldy.

Darren McGrady, a former chef to the royals, previously told TODAY: "Princess Anne almost always preferred the bananas almost black - over ripe - because they digested easier."

Bananas that are browning are typically sweeter as all the chlorophyll and starch in the fruit has broken down into sugar - which is usually why you use overripe bananas in baking.

Royals traditionally always eat with cutlery, meaning Anne won't eat hers the traditional hand peeled way.

Chef Darren explained: "First, the ends of the banana are cut off. Then the banana peel is sliced down the middle from end to end so the unpeeled fruit can be opened.

"The fruit is sliced into circles and eaten with a fork."

As she tends to skip lunch, Anne is noted to store rations of fruit in her handbag for throughout the day, and tends to take a kiwi fruit out when she's feeling hungry.

Daughter Zara Tindall, once shared: "She always has a kiwi fruit."

Princess Anne also likes a kipper, and once sent a letter to Fortune Kippers - a 140-year-old celebrated smokehouse based in Whitby, North Yorkshire.

The company's website reveals: "Members of the Royal Family have also been known to enjoy our kippers and HRH the Princess Anne has written to Barry and Derek telling them how much she enjoys their kippers."

The Princess Royal also enjoys an afternoon tea - but whether she prefers cream or butter with her scones is yet to be revealed.

And when it comes to dinner, Anne likes it fancy, with her favourite dish revealed in 2020, as she guest-edited an edition of Country Life magazine for her 70th birthday.

The Princess Royal's favourite meal is a devilled pheasant, and the Ritz's Executive Chef, John Williams, shared the tasty but simple recipe.

John explained: "Basically, a couple of whole pheasants are poached, then taken off the bone, shredded and kept warm in the poaching juices.

"You just add freshly whipped cream, left in the fridge for an hour to stiffen, mixed with a good amount of Green Label mango chutney."

British game tends to be leaner and higher in protein than most farmed meats, which locks the flavour in.

John added that Anne's perfect accompaniment is Sharwood’s Green Label chutney, adding: "I went out and found that especially!"
