Prince William shares sweet detail about footballer daughter Charlotte who is 'really good in goal'

Prince William says his seven-year-old football-loving daughter Charlotte is a “budding star”. He made the comment when he met members of the England women’s football team on Wednesday.

The Duke of Cambridge gave royal fans a delightful rare insight into his daughter's interests and hobbies during the visit, sharing that like the players the young Princess has a passion for the beautiful game. While attending the team training session at St George's Park, William, 39, was presented with personalised football shirts for his three kids: Prince George, eight, Princess Charlotte, and four-year-old Prince Louis.

The Duke of Cambridge cut a reasonably casual figure for the affair, arriving in a suit and blazer jacket with an open-collared blue shirt – different from his usual buttoned up shirt and tie, reports OK!

As he was presented with the personalised football tops, William passed on a message to the team from Princess Charlotte herself.

“Charlotte wants me to tell you she's really good in goal,” the doting dad said. “A budding star for the future!” William further quipped. The Duke added: “She said, ‘Please can you tell them that’, and I said ‘Okay I'll tell them’.”

As he posed for photographs holding up the kids’ new shirts, William went on to joke that it looked like the three of them had been signed to the team. Elsewhere he told captain Leah Williamson that George plays for a local team, adding: "He gets very competitive."

Prince George is thought to be quite the football fan, and was said to have “begged” his dad to take him to the England World Cup game last summer. Royal expert Duncan Larcombe said at the time: “Prince William is George’s absolute hero. He thinks his dad’s the most perfect person on the planet.

“William would never have normally taken him to the football because it was an official outing in his role as president of the FA, but George absolutely begged to be allowed to come along.”

He went on: “ Kate and William are at pains to never expose the children unnecessarily to the cameras but he twisted their arm eventually. “That’s why Kate came, so that when William had to meet all the dignitaries, George could stay with her.

“George idolises his dad. That’s why we saw him looking so smart in his suit – he really wanted to dress like William. He’s becoming a pretty big character and has both of his parents eating out of the palm of his hand.”
