Prince William's three children joined millions of others across the UK in honouring their mum yesterday (Sunday, March 19). But while Prince George, nine, Princess Charlotte, seven, and Prince Louis, four, celebrated Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, for Mother's Day, they would also have had someone they never met in their thoughts.
On every Mother's Day, the young royals also honour their grandmothers, Carole Middleton and the late Princess Dianna. Prince William has previously spoken about regularly talking to his sons and daughter - especially at bedtime - about his late mother to make sure they know who she was and all about her.
Heartfelt cards they wrote for Diana from 2021 have resurfaced after being shared by The Prince of Wales, as reported by the Mirror. Charlotte's particularly poignant message, which was on a pink background with a colourful hand-drawn heart, read: "Dear Granny Diana, I am thinking of you on mother's day. I love you very much. Papa is missing you. Lots of love Charlotte xxxxxxxxx".

Her older brother George wrote on his bright green-coloured card: "Dear Granny Diana, Happy happy Mother's Day. I love you very much and think of you always, sending lots of love from George xxxxx."
The card from Louis, who was just two at the time, featured a colourful painted heart and several animals stuck on to a green background. Photos of the cards were shared on the official Twitter account for the Prince and Princess of Wales, along with a heartfelt message.
It read: "This year Mother’s Day will be different once again. Many of us will be apart from our loved ones, but looking forward to a time in the not too distant future when we can give our mother a hug again.
"But for those experiencing bereavement, today may be particularly challenging. Each year on Mother’s Day, George, Charlotte and Louis make cards remembering their Granny, Diana, for William. Whatever your circumstances, we are thinking of you this Mother’s Day."
News of Princess Diana's death rocked the nation on August 31, 1997. She is said to have died from injuries that she sustained in a car accident that happened in the early hours of the same day. Diana had been in a car driving through the Pont de l'Alma tunnel in Paris, France when it crashed into the 13th pillar of the tunnel.
