Prince Harry fondly recalled the moment he saw a picture of Meghan Markle on a mutual friend's Instagram and just knew he needed to meet her during the couple's Netflix docuseries.
However, in the early stages of their romance the duke was keen to keep their relationship out of the spotlight in order to protect the Suits actress' and her privacy, the Mirror reports.
After spending their first few dates inside private rooms of London members club, the couple got to know each on a more intimate level at Harry's Kensington Palace cottage and also jetted off on romantic holidays to destinations that are special to them both.
Harry decided he wanted to make their relationship known in his private life and introduced the American actress to his closest loved ones after a few months.
Recalling how it went down in his memoir Spare, Harry said Meghan met with his friends first and it went really well so he decided to take things to the next level and introduce her to his family.
Prince William and Kate were the first to know with Harry telling them of his new love over dinner in their London home.
He claims his older brother “knew something was going on” and was eager to know more.
The Duke revealed his news after Prince George and Princess Charlotte were put to bed but insisted the royal couple promised to keep his announcement a secret.
He started by telling them he had a new woman in his life and that she was an American actress who starred on Suits.
Harry writes: “Their mouths fell open. They turned to each other. Then Willy turned to me and said: ‘F*** off”.
He then claims Kate and William said it was impossible, leaving Harry baffled.
The Prince and Princess of Wales revealed they were big fans of Suit and knew exactly who Meghan was.
Later in the book, Harry recalls the first time they actually met in person and admitted he was more nervous for that introduction than he was for Megan to meet the Queen.
He writes: “After a wait the door opened and there was my big brother, a bit dressed up. Nice trousers, nice shirt, open collar. I introduced Meg, who leaned in and gave him a hug, which completely freaked him out. He recoiled.
“Willy didn’t hug strangers, whereas Meg hugged most strangers. The moment was a classic collision of cultures, like a flashlight-torch, which felt both funny and charming.”
The first meeting was only a flying visit as Harry and William were going out on a shooting trip but the pair exchange a few "warm words".
