Prince William's holiday cottage rentals are cheaper than Travelodge

Holidaymakers can enjoy a stay in one of Prince William’s luxury cottages for less than the price of a budget hotel.

The Prince rents outs the homes through the Duchy of Cornwall estate and prices have come down as families hit by the credit crunch look for bargains in August and September.

A survey by MoneyTransfers.com found that more than half of Britons are taking UK breaks to save money.

According to the Mirror, a week in one of the Cornish cottages can cost around £980 for four people or £35 per person per night.

The royal properties include country houses and cottages across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Three of them in the Cornish town of Lostwithiel have been reduced with visitors told they offer a mixture of “traditional elegance with contemporary comfort”.

The nine-bed Restormel Manor near Fowey saw its price reduced by £2,328 in August and now costs £517 per person which works out at £73 a night. It includes an indoor pool, tennis court and fishing rights at a local river.

The Duchy Estate is a significant landowner in the west country and its profits help finance William and Kate’s official duties.
