Prince William's favourite Tina Turner song which reminds him of fond childhood memories

Prince William has fondly reflected on one of his favourite Tina Turner childhood tracks after announcement of the music star's tragic death.

The Queen of Rock 'n' Roll passed away at the age of 83 on Wednesday at her home in Switzerland following a long health battle, the Mirror reports.

The Prince of Wales is likely to be gutted by the news after he previously admitted he was a huge fan - and it appears the late music icon will always remain Simply the Best to the future King.

He claimed to listen to Tina's hits to keep the memories of his late mum Princess Diana alive. In a 2021 interview, William revealed he had a soft spot for the US legend's famous 1989 cover of Bonnie Tyler's The Best.

The Prince explained that the track reminds him of his childhood and causes him to reminisce on a "real family moment" while driving to school with mum Diana and his younger brother Harry.

Speaking on Apple audio experience Time To Walk, William told listeners that the trio would sing along to a variety of songs on the school run together.

Diana would play the tunes full blast while taking her sons back to boarding school in order to ease their nerves about returning and William has revealed the one song, in particular, that has never left him throughout the years.

He said: "When I was younger, Harry and I, we were at boarding school. And my mother used to play all sorts of songs to kind of while away the anxiety of going back to school.

"And one of the songs I massively remember and has stuck with me all this time, and I still, to this day, still quite enjoy secretly, is Tina Turner's 'The Best' because sitting in the backseat, singing away, it felt like a real family moment.

"And my mother, she'd be driving along, singing at the top of her voice. And we'd even get the policeman in the car, he’d be occasionally singing along as well.

"You'd be singing and listening to the music right the way out into the gates of school when they dropped you off.

"When I listen to it now, it takes me back to those car rides and brings back lots of memories of my mother."
