Prince William's embarrassing treat from Diana that almost made him fall down stairs

Teenagers have long complained about their embarrassing parents - and it seems royals are among them.

Although he is now almost 40, Prince William once told of the time his late mother Princess Diana tried to organise a special treat for him when he was just 12 or 13.

But the surprise didn't quite go to plan as it embarrassed a young William as his reaction to it was less than cool.

The second-in-line to the throne revealed what the special treat was in 2017 during a documentary to mark the 20th anniversary of his mother's untimely death.

He recalled that when he was a young boy, he loved supermodels and had posters of them all over his bedroom walls.

So as a special treat, Diana arranged for supermodels Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell and Christy Turlington to be waiting for him when he got home from school.

But rather than being filled with delight, the shock of seeing the models almost made him fall down the stairs.

He told the programme, Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy: “I was probably a 12 or 13-year-old boy who had posters of them on his wall.

"And I went bright red and didn’t know what to say and sort of fumbled and I think I pretty much fell down the stairs on the way up.

“I was completely and utterly sort of awestruck. But that was a very funny memory.”

And during the film, William's younger brother Prince Harry said their mother loved to tease her sons.

He explained: “That sort of childish, fun element really came out when she was spending time with us.

“Our mother was a total kid through and through... All I can hear is her laugh in my head. That sort of crazy laugh of where there was just pure happiness shown on her face."

However, it wasn't the only time Diana plotted to embarrass William.

On his 13th birthday, she ordered her son a cheeky 'boob cake'.

The family's former head chef Darren McGrady told Hello! magazine: "I came into work that morning and went down to the refrigerator, opened the door and I was just confronted with the biggest pair of boobs I've ever seen in my life.

"The Princess had ordered a boobs cake for William's 13th birthday.

"William just went bright-red."

But Harry absolutely loved it and told Diana he wanted one too, reports the Daily Mail.
