Royal fans cheered Prince William on Tuesday as he made his first public appearance since the news broke that Kate had completed her cancer treatment.
Supporters lined the streets outside Swiss Valley Primary School in Llanelli, West Wales, eager to send their well-wishes to the future king.
Braving blustery showers, they came bearing cards, gifts, and words of love following the Princess of Wales positive video update on her health.
Catherine, 42, announced on Monday she had finished her grueling chemotherapy and would soon return to light royal duties in due course.
Sandra Peters, 79, of Swiss Valley Park, was one of the many clutching a heartfelt message. "I wrote to say how happy I am she's in recovery," Sandra beamed.
"I’m just a little old lady, but I admire her bravery. Her family is so beautiful."
Among the crowd was devoted royal watcher Maria Derrick, 63, who had previously attended both Kate and William's wedding and King Charles' coronation. “I’ve just had Covid for 10 days but nothing was going to stop me from being here. I’m over the moon that Kate’s on the mend.”
In a show of support that could only be described as extraordinary, local removals man Barry Wilkins, 54, installed a giant statue of a dragon on his front lawn to mark the occasion. “Kate’s recovery is such brilliant news. William is our Prince of Wales, so the dragon felt like a fitting tribute,” he explained proudly.
William’s visit kicked off at Swiss Valley Primary School, where the Prince spent time with staff and students before moving on to meet Welsh Air Ambulance crews. Later in the day, he was set to catch up with players from Llanelli’s beloved rugby team, the Scarlets.
Jane Stoneman, 61, the daughter of former Scarlets captain Aubrey Gale, was in attendance and couldn’t resist sending her own message to the Duchess. "I’ve written a lovely card to Kate, telling her how thrilled we all are that she's getting better. She and her family are so loved, and she's as beautiful as ever."
As William mingled with the crowd, it was clear that the joy and relief over Kate’s recovery was felt by everyone present.
Royal fan Sandra Peters, 79, said: “I told him, Bore da [Welsh for good morning], you have a beautiful family, I'm so pleased Kate is recovering.
“He said thank you very much.
“He was lovely, he's so charming.”
The future king thanked the well-wishers for their support.
