Prince William may be forced to break the royal family's 'Never Complain, Never Explain' motto to defend himself against his younger brother latest bombshell allegations, the Mirror's royal editor believes.
In a leaked extract of Prince Harry's highly anticipated memoir, Spare, he accuses the future king of "knocking him to the floor" in a physical "attack" which left him with scrapes and bruises.
Harry claims William "grabbed" him by the collar and ripped his necklace during the incident, which happened at his Kensington Palace home.
Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace declined to comment this morning, however The Mirror's Russell Myers believes William may have to speak out as the allegations could be "particularly damaging".
He explains: "The latest raft of ex allegations from Prince Harry will no doubt send shockwaves through the royal households. Having already accused his father, King Charles, of being a liar and his older brother of being a bully, Harry has massively upped the ante by detailing explosive allegations that Prince William - the future king - flew into a rage and physically attacked him.
'For a man such as William, who has tirelessly campaigned about the importance of mental health provision, if Harry's bombshell claims are true the will be particularly damaging.
"Both Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace have so far refused to engage or react with Harry and Meghan’s constant steam of attacks and allegations, but many will wonder whether the time has now come for the royals to hit back and salvage their reputations which are being brutalised by the Duke of Sussex."
Harry's book doesn't hit the shelves until Tuesday, but extracts leaked by the Guardian reveal details of the heated row.
Harry writes: "He set down the water, called me another name, then came at me. It all happened so fast. So very fast. He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor.
"I landed on the dog’s bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me. I lay there for a moment, dazed, then got to my feet and told him to get out."
In the leaked extract, Harry also claims that his father King Charles made a cruel joke about him to his mother just moments after he was born.
He claims Charles said: “Wonderful! Now you’ve given me an heir and a spare – my work is done.”
He also says William called his wife Meghan “difficult”, “rude” and “abrasive” and accuses his brother of "acting like an heir"
