Prince William proved once again he knows exactly how to connect with young people as he was welcomed with hugs and endless selfie requests during a visit to Mentivity House youth club in south London.
Showing he had done his homework, William revealed he had “swatted up” on the organisation by watching a YouTube video directed by Adeyemi Michael in partnership with Spotify. It set the tone for a relaxed and lively engagement where the Prince even got stuck into a game of Mario Kart, impressing everyone with his gaming skills.
During the visit, the conversation naturally turned towards family matters, and William was asked what he thought of King Charles’s newly released 17-song playlist for Apple Music Radio. Laughing, he said: “I was expecting a lot of classical music, so I was surprised.”
The King’s playlist, titled The King’s Music Room, is packed with some unexpected names, including Kylie Minogue, Bob Marley and Grace Jones — a world away from the classical tracks many might expect from a 76-year-old monarch. William’s reaction showed he was just as surprised as the rest of us by his father’s modern taste.
When quizzed if he thought King Charles might have slipped in a few tracks from the Garage or UK Funky scenes, William joked: “I’m not sure he’d know what that was,” sparking plenty of laughter. The cheeky comment highlighted the fun generational gap in musical tastes between father and son.
The King’s playlist has already caught the attention of royal watchers everywhere, offering a rare and refreshing glimpse into his side beyond his usual royal duties. The podcast format has made it feel even more intimate, letting people see a much more relatable side to the monarch.
Meanwhile, William’s visit to Mentivity House showed why he’s so popular among younger generations. By bonding over gaming and being willing to laugh at himself and his family, he made it clear the Royal Family is working hard to stay connected with the communities they serve.
It was a visit full of laughs, selfies, and unexpected revelations — and one that proved Prince William’s ability to bridge generations in a way that feels genuine and easy.
