Prince William 'disappointed' by godmother's 'unacceptable' comments

Prince William's spokesperson has slammed the comments made to a charity worker at Buckingham Palace.

Mandu Reid, leader of the Women's Equality Party, was stood next to Sistah Space founder Ngozi Fulani at the event hosted by the Queen Consort on Tuesday when she overheard a longstanding palace aide challenge the Ms Fulani by saying "Where do your people come from?" She said the encounter left them "pretty stunned", branding the experience a reflection of the wider situation in British society and very dangerous and disturbing.

Speaking to reporters in the US ahead of a visit by the Prince of Wales, a Kensington Palace spokesperson said: "This is a matter for Buckingham Palace but as the Prince of Wales ' spokesperson I appreciate you're all here and understand you'll want to ask about it, so let me address it head on. I was really disappointed to hear about the guests experience at Buckingham Palace last night."

They added: "Obviously, I wasn't there, but racism has no place in our society. The comments were unacceptable, and it is right that the individual has stepped aside with immediate effect."

Ms Fulani revealed how "Lady SH" - Lady Susan Hussey persistently asked where she was from and challenged her when she said she was British.

Lady Susan Hussey served as Queen Elizabeth II's lady in waiting for more than 60 years and is a godmother to the Prince of Wales. She has since resigned and apologised after she made the "unacceptable and deeply regrettable comments". King Charles, who acceded to the throne less than three months ago, and Camilla have been made aware of the situation, the Palace said.
