Prince William was left physically sick prior to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex uncovered many shocking revelations when they spoke to US icon Oprah to share their recollection of the drama after they made the decision to step down as senior royals.
Following their decision, the estranged Royal couple moved their lives to Montecito, California with their two kids - and since, have returned to the UK just a number of times reports the Mirror.
During the shocking chat, the former actress and Prince Harry made various allegations, which included a claim that a member of The Royal Family allegedly asked a question about the colour of their then-unborn son Archie's skin colour.
Meanwhile, Meghan also claimed that she was denied access to see a specialist following her mental health struggle. She also claimed she was feeling suicidal during this time.
Editor-at-large for the Mail on Sunday, Charlotte Griffiths has discussed reports Princess Kate was behind the palace's decision to take a tougher stance on the Sussexes' allegations.
Speaking on Dan Wootton's GB News programme, she said: "What I find quite surprising, and I've heard this for a long time now from many different sources, is that in the lead-up to that Oprah interview, William was quite literally sick with worry.
"He was not eating, and he became - not reclusive - but he definitely was hiding away. He went to a Royal residence for a period of time to cut himself off from the world. He was just in bits basically.
"And what Kate was doing was standing by her man. Kate was like: 'I've got to stick up for this guy and protect him. He's being destroyed by this,' and that probably made her quite steely even though she has this reputation for being shy. But when it comes to protecting her husband, she's going to step in and protect him."
Following the shock interview, Queen Elizabeth issued a rare statement via Buckingham Palace, saying: "The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.
"The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much-loved family members."
In recent days, reports suggest the Princess of Wales was the driving force behind the saying "recollections may vary". Palace insiders alleged that William coined the phrase but the Princess insisted that it was used in the final statement."
