Prince William was left physically unwell ahead of Harry's interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Harry and his wife Mehan Markle sat down with the US chat show host to share their side of the story after they made the decision to step down as senior working royals.
Following their decision, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex moved their lives to Montecito, California and have since returned to the UK on just a number of occasions.
During their explosive chat, the former actress and Harry made several allegations, including one claim that a member of The Royal Family allegedly asked a question about the colour of their then-unborn son Archie's skin colour.
Elsewhere, Megan also claimed that she was denied access to see a specialist after struggling with her mental health and claimed she was feeling suicidal at certain times.
Charlotte Griffiths, editor-at-large for the Mail on Sunday has discussed reports that Princess Kate was behind the palace's decision to take a tougher stance on the Sussexes' allegations.
Speaking on Dan Wootton's GB News programme, she said: "What I find quite surprising, and I've heard this for a long time now from many different sources, is that in the lead-up to that Oprah interview, William was quite literally sick with worry.
"He was not eating, and he became - not reclusive - but he definitely was hiding away. He went to a Royal residence for a period of time to cut himself off from the world. He was just in bits basically.
"And what Kate was doing was standing by her man. Kate was like: 'I've got to stick up for this guy and protect him. He's being destroyed by this,' and that probably made her quite steely even though she has this reputation for being shy. But when it comes to protecting her husband, she's going to step in and protect him."
Following the dramatic interview, Harry's late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth issued a rare statement via Buckingham Palace, saying: "The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.
"The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much-loved family members."
In recent days, reports suggest that the Princess of Wales was the driving force behind the saying "recollections may vary."
Palace insiders alleged that William coined the phrase but the Princess insisted that it was used in the final statement."
