Friends of Kate, Princess of Wales and Prince William were shocked and sickened by their portrayal in Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex's explosive new Netflix docuseries, it has been claimed.
The first official teaser for the Sussexes’ behind-the-scenes series dropped on the second day of the Prince and Princess of Wales' high-profile visit to America.
The 72-second sneak peak showed never before seen images of the US-based couple - but another royal pair were also featured in the trailer, and it's not gone down well.
A black and white image of a stony-faced William and Kate, taken during the 2019 Commonwealth Day Ceremony at Westminster, also flashed up.
Friends of the royals are livid - even before the show airs - and described the preview as "everything we feared".
Daily Mail Diary Editor Richard Eden claimed to have spoken to friends of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and said they were "appalled" by what they saw.
"I've heard from friends of Prince William and Catherine today, and they've been frankly sickened by what's appeared in this video," he claimed, speaking to Mail+.
"The use of William and Catherine and the image and the way it's presented, my goodness."
Mr Eden also explained that friends of the Waleses believed that the filmmakers appeared to "seem to have gone to great lengths to find the one unflattering image of Catherine for this trailer".
During the clip, Meghan appeared to be wiping away tears with both hands as they stream down her face, while Harry sits and tilts his head right back, seemingly in distress.
Harry said: "No one sees what’s happening behind closed doors… I had to do everything I could to protect my family", while Meghan added: "When the stakes were this high, doesn’t it make more sense to hear our story from us?"
The series is set to be split into six episodes, and according to Netflix, it "explores the clandestine days of their early courtship and the challenges that led to them feeling forced to step back from their full-time roles in the institution".
And the streaming service added that it would also feature "friends and family, most of whom have never spoken publicly before about what they witnessed".
Netflix said in a statement: "In an unprecedented and in-depth documentary series, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex share the other side of their high-profile love story.
"Across six episodes, the series explores the clandestine days of their early courtship and the challenges that led to them feeling forced to step back from their full-time roles in the institution.
"With commentary from friends and family, most of whom have never spoken publicly before about what they witnessed, and historians who discuss the state of the British Commonwealth today and the royal family’s relationship with the press, the series does more than illuminate one couple’s love story, it paints a picture of our world and how we treat each other."
