Prince William and Kate Middleton share heartfelt 'goodbye' tribute to Queen Elizabeth II

Prince William and Kate Middleton have shared their touching 'goodbyes' with the Queen this evening, as her body is finally laid to rest.

Taking to their official joint Twitter account, the Prince and Princess of Wales, simply penned: "Goodbye to a Queen, a mother, a grandmother and a great grandmother."

Along with the moving words, the pair shared a black and white image of today's pallbearers carrying Queen Elizabeth II's coffin, draped in the Royal Standard and Crown Jewels.

The Mirror reports that both parties attended today's state funeral with their two eldest children, Prince George, nine, and Princess Charlotte, seven. Charlotte had her own tribute to her great-grandmother, in the form of a small badge pinned to her coat nodding to her love of horses.

She walked behind the Queen's coffin alongside her brother George, while clutching her mother's hand with her father at her other side - dressed in black and wearing a formal hat for the very first time. Pinned to her smart black coat itself, was a small and delicate horseshoe badge - with Charlotte too recently learning how to ride.

Prior to the procession, George and his sister travelled to Westminster Abbey in the same car as the Queen Consort, with mum Kate also arriving with them. It's the first pubic appearance that the two youngsters have made since the death of Queen Elizabeth II, on September 8, aged 96.

They arrived at the church shortly after some of the Queen's grandchildren, including Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. Following the funeral itself, King Charles III and some 800 others took to St George's Chapel in Windsor, where a traditional committal service took place.
