Prince's 'Purple Rain' house evokes chic '80s rocker glamor – and it's only $7 to stay with Airbnb

Prince purple rain living room with white chairs and purple walls.

A stay in the Purple Rain House from Prince's 1984 film of the same name is more than a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for fans; it's also a treasure trove of interior design ideas. Airbnb has revealed its latest 'icon,' and it is a masterclass in '80s style.

To celebrate the iconic song's 40th anniversary, the retro-designed home is available to book on Airbnb from October 2. The overnight stay was newly restored and carefully curated by Prince's bandmates turned Airbnb hosts, Wendy Mevoin and Lisa Coleman. This home invites fans to experience 'purple rain' in a new way, including real-life elements, unreleased tracks, memories, and authentic pieces from Prince’s own collection. Fans can request to book the home at a rate of $7 per person starting at 9 am Eastern Time on October 2.

'We were lucky enough to be a part of the music scene in Minneapolis during such a pivotal era for rock music, playing with Prince in one of the most successful bands of our generation and starring alongside him in the Purple Rain film,' state Melvoin and Coleman. It's clear they have an intimate understanding of the dreamy '80s aesthetics informing Princes's work; the purple room ideas speak for themselves.

The maximalism of the home is designed to embody Prince's iconic personal style and musical career. Melvoin and Coleman continue: 'The Purple Rain house stands as a tribute to our dear friend Prince, the timeless character he brought to life, and the lasting impact he continues to have. We hope the space gives fans a glimpse into the eclectic world Prince created, and visitors walk away feeling a little bit closer to him as an artist and person.'

The iconic style of the home comes through in one of our favorite spaces, the purple living room. Statement lighting highlights the fluted finishes of the walls and brings a unique warmth to the modern furniture pieces spread throughout the room. It's bold, eyecatching, and simple to recreate the look in any home.

Bold upholstery is also a key element of this period. The home bar showcases a geometric sofa with velvet. Though this look might be a bit dated if taken on wholesale, it looks gorgeous when incorporated with stylish vertical shelving, as shown in the purple rain home.

Exclusive memorabilia also sets this house apart, with beautiful clothing items from Prince's iconic wardrobe in the home's gorgeous maroon closet.

Just in case you don't win a stay at the iconic Purple Rain house, here are a few ideas to replicate the style of the home in your abode. Rich colors, '80s-inspired silhouettes and lustrous fabrics are a great place to start.

If you are feeling inspired but aren't planning on turning your home into a full Prince tribute, start small. There are a multitude of outdated '80s interior design trends that everyone will want in 2024. Begin with a maximalist design that incorporates a variety of textures, colors, and decorative objects that reflect your personality. Add stylish, '80s style details like floral chintz fabric and fluted furniture.

A stay in Prince's Purple Rain home might not be enough to completely change your interior design style, but it's a wonderful jumping-off point for ideas. Plus, it's only $7.
