
Five years after the Grammys paid tribute to the late musician Prince, he has posthumously received their lifetime achievement award. The iconic singer and songwriter was among a group of honorees, including Frankie Beverly, Roxanne Shanté, and Dr. Bobby Jones, recognized at the Special Merit Awards Ceremony on Saturday. The CBS broadcast featured a video package showcasing the accomplishments of the honorees.
Prince was previously honored in 2020 during a Grammys special titled “Let’s Go Crazy: The Grammy Tribute to Prince.” Throughout his lifetime, he amassed an impressive 38 Grammy nominations and secured seven wins.
Prince, renowned for his unique sound, flamboyant style, and thought-provoking lyrics, tragically passed away in 2016 at the age of 57. Toxicology reports later revealed that his death was due to an accidental overdose of the opioid fentanyl, as confirmed by the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office.


Prince's musical legacy transcends genres and continues to resonate with audiences across generations. Following his untimely demise, an outpouring of grief swept through his fanbase as they paid homage to the artist who seamlessly blended rock, R&B, jazz, funk, and pop in his music.
Some of Prince’s most iconic hits, such as “Let’s Go Crazy,” “Nothing Compares 2 U,” and “When Doves Cry,” solidified his status as a music legend.
