Rahim Al-Hussaini has been appointed as the new Aga Khan, succeeding his father who passed away recently. The 53-year-old has been designated as the Aga Khan V, the 50th hereditary imam of the Ismaili Muslims, in accordance with his father's will. The Aga Khan holds a significant position among his followers, being considered a direct descendant of the Prophet Muhammad and is revered as a spiritual leader and head of state.

The Aga Khan Development Network, along with the Ismaili religious community, confirmed the passing of His Highness Prince Karim Al-Hussaini, the Aga Khan IV and 49th hereditary imam of the Shiite Ismaili Muslims. Prince Rahim, the eldest son of the former Aga Khan, has been actively involved in the philanthropic efforts of the Aga Khan Development Network, focusing on areas such as health care, housing, education, and rural economic development.

The Aga Khan Development Network, with an annual budget of approximately $1 billion for nonprofit development activities, operates in over 30 countries. Prince Rahim has shown a particular interest in initiatives aimed at combating climate change and safeguarding the environment.

The late Aga Khan, who was bestowed the title of 'His Highness' by Queen Elizabeth in 1957, was known for his contributions as a business magnate and philanthropist. He played a crucial role in bridging the gap between Muslim societies and the West, emphasizing Islamic culture and values.

Throughout his life, the late Aga Khan established a network of hospitals in regions lacking adequate healthcare services, including Bangladesh, Tajikistan, and Afghanistan. Ismailis, followers of the Aga Khan, have a tradition of contributing a portion of their income to support the Aga Khan's stewardship.

Prince Rahim, who has three siblings, has been actively engaged in continuing his family's legacy of philanthropy and service to the Ismaili community. With his background in comparative literature from Brown University and his involvement in various agencies within the Aga Khan Development Network, Prince Rahim is poised to lead with a strong commitment to social development and environmental sustainability.
