Rahim Al-Hussaini appointed as the new Aga Khan V.

Rahim Al-Hussaini has been appointed as the new Aga Khan, the spiritual leader of millions of Ismaili Muslims worldwide, following the passing of his father. At 53 years old, he is now recognized as the Aga Khan V, the 50th hereditary imam of the Ismaili Muslims, as per his father's will. The former Aga Khan, His Highness Prince Karim Al-Hussaini, the Aga Khan IV, and 49th hereditary imam of the Shiite Ismaili Muslims, passed away in Portugal.

The Aga Khan holds a significant position among his followers, being considered a direct descendant of the Prophet Muhammad and is revered as a head of state within the Ismaili community. Prince Rahim, the eldest son of the late Aga Khan, received his education in the United States, majoring in comparative literature at Brown University. He has actively participated in various agencies within the Aga Khan Development Network, the primary philanthropic organization of the spiritual leader.

The Aga Khan Development Network focuses on critical areas such as healthcare, housing, education, and rural economic development across more than 30 countries. With an annual budget of approximately $1 billion for nonprofit development initiatives, the organization has been instrumental in addressing pressing global challenges. Prince Rahim has shown a particular interest in combating climate change and promoting environmental conservation through the network's initiatives.

Throughout his life, the late Aga Khan was recognized for his contributions as a business magnate and philanthropist, seamlessly navigating between spiritual and worldly affairs. He was bestowed with the title of 'His Highness' by Queen Elizabeth in 1957, following his grandfather's decision to appoint him as the heir to the Ismaili Muslim sect's leadership.

Embracing his role as a defender of Islamic culture and values, the late Aga Khan played a pivotal role in fostering understanding between Muslim societies and the Western world. His legacy includes the establishment of a network of hospitals in underserved regions like Bangladesh, Tajikistan, and Afghanistan, aimed at improving healthcare access and boosting local economies.

Ismailis, who have historically resided in various regions including Iran, Syria, South Asia, and beyond, have a tradition of contributing up to 12.5% of their income to the Aga Khan as a form of stewardship. Followers of the Ismaili faith turn to the Aga Khan for spiritual guidance and believe in his profound understanding of the Quran.

Prince Rahim, who has two brothers and one sister, is poised to continue the legacy of his esteemed father as the new Aga Khan, leading the Ismaili community with a commitment to philanthropy, social development, and environmental sustainability.
