Prince Louis wasn't meant to have a grand royal title but this major change granted it

As the Trooping the Colour celebrations approach this weekend, royal fans are keen to get a glimpse of Prince Louis and his funny antics.

The adorable five-year-old stole the show at last year's event when he entertained everyone with his hilarious expressions and cheeky antics.

Many will remember his reaction to the RAF flypast as he covered his ears whilst standing next to his late great-grandmother, the Queen on the Buckingham Palace balcony reports the Mirror.

The youngest of Prince William and Kate, Louis is fourth in line to the throne, behind his dad Prince William, and his older brother and sister Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

Officially known as His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Wales - it's been revealed that he could actually have missed out on becoming a prince.

However, Queen Elizabeth made a change prior to her death which intervened to overwrite a rule put in place by King George V.

In 1917, King George V introduced new guidelines on which royals were allowed to have titles - and who was too far down the line of succession to qualify for one.

Queen Elizabeth's grandfather decided that all of the sovereign's children would automatically become a prince or princess, as well as any grandchildren born through the male line.

However, great-grandchildren weren't included on the list.

When George was born, the rule caused quite a stir among the family, as despite being the future King, he shouldn't have had the title.

Queen Elizabeth decided to step in and grant George the title, extending the change to all of Kate and William's children - so Charlotte and Louis also got them at birth.

However, even if the late Queen decided not to intervene, Louis still would eventually become a prince when his grandfather King Charles took the throne back in September.

On Saturday, Louis, George and Charlotte are believed to be appearing at Trooping the Colour once more - it will be the first of their grandfather King Charles' reign.

The annual event has marked the official birthday of the Sovereign for more than 260 years.

King Charles will take the salute as Colonel in Chief of the seven regiments of the Household Division at the Birthday Parade on Horse Guards Parade on Saturday.

It will be the first time the reigning monarch has ridden at Trooping the Colour since 1986 when Queen Elizabeth II last rode.

The parade is set to move from Buckingham Palace, down The Mall to Horse Guards Parade, where the King will be greeted by a royal salute and will carry out an inspection of the military on parade.

Charles will be joined by the Queen and members of the royal family, including the royal youngsters, to view the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards Troop their Colour.

The Sovereign’s Escort will be provided by The Life Guards and The Blues and Royals.

After the parade, the King, accompanied by Camilla and other family members, will return to Buckingham Palace to appear on the balcony for the fly-past, which will conclude the day’s celebrations.
