Prince Harry 'wants to enjoy royal trappings without any of the duty', says Piers Morgan

Piers Morgan has accused Prince Harry of "delighting" in making the most difficult time in the Queen's life even harder.

The Duke of Sussex claims he is effectively in exile because it is “unsafe” for him and his family to return to the UK.

The Prince, who was expected to return to England twice this year, and his wife Meghan, lost their taxpayer-funded police protection after quitting their royal roles in 2020.

Security experts suggested Harry’s costs could be as much as £100,000 per week - and it is claimed he wants the government to foot the bill.

According to numerous sources, the 37-year-old is now threatening legal action after being told no.

He says his private protection arrangements are not enough and Piers has waded in to the latest row.

The former Good Morning Britain presenters said there is a "wearisome inevitability" that Harry would request help after being cut-off.

He says the latest issue is all the Queen needs with the Prince Andrew crisis engulfing Buckingham Palace less than a year after the death of beloved husband Prince Philip.

Writing in his Uncensored column in the Sun, Piers said: "Harry seems to have delighted in making his 95-year-old grandmother’s life more difficult during the most difficult times of her life.

"Since they quit Britain, Harry and Meghan have proven themselves to be only interested in one thing: making as much money as fast as possible by ruthlessly exploiting their royal status.

"This latest legal row perfectly exemplifies the Sussexes’ desire to have their royal cake and eat it - they don’t want to do any actual work for the Royal Family after falling out with most of them following their constant public attacks."

Harry, wants to pay for specialist police protection, but the Home Office has ruled this out – and he has applied for a judicial review against the decision.

Harry’s legal reps said in a statement: "The UK will always be Prince Harry's home and a country he wants his wife and children to be safe in. With the lack of police protection, comes too great a personal risk.

"The Duke and Duchess of Sussex personally fund a private security team for their family, yet that security cannot replicate the necessary police protection needed whilst in the UK.

"In the absence of such protection, Prince Harry and his family are unable to return to his home."

The Sun reports that a royal source said the Queen will not help her grandson in his demands for Met Police protection.

“This is not a matter for Her Majesty. She certainly won’t cave in to his demands," the insider said.

“It is a matter for Her Majesty’s government. Who gets protection is not a gift the Queen can decide to give or take away.”

Another said: “His demands for security in the UK have not been openly or widely discussed within the family because it was thought sorted two years ago."
