Prince Harry thought 'maybe Granny intervened' after William rejected wedding request

Prince Harry thinks his late grandmother Queen Elizabeth II might have "intervened" after Prince William declined a key request of his before his wedding to Meghan Markle in 2018.

The Duke of Sussex was keen to meet the crowds of fans the evening before his wedding but his older brother was initially not on the same page about his idea, the Express reports.

Harry and Meghan celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary on Friday after the couple tied the knot in a fairytale ceremony at St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle.

On their big day, William stood side-by-side with Harry as he welcomed his bride Meghan down the aisle with the rest of the Royal Family watching inside the Chapel.

However, tensions had already begun to rise between Harry and William the night before the wedding and the Duke was left "feeling sick" after an exchange with the heir to the throne.

Speaking of the incident in his bombshell memoir Spare, Harry recalled having some drinks with friends at Coworth Park Hotel where he stayed on the eve of his wedding.

William had only recently become a dad for the third time when Harry and Meghan got married, and Harry claimed he was supposed to join the group but cancelled at the "last minute" because of "Kate and the kids".

Harry wrote that he reminded his older brother on the night before his marriage to Kate in 2011 that the pair had dinner together before greeting the eager fans outside.

The Duke of Sussex then claims William then shot back: "Why are you even saying hello to the crowds, Harold?" Harry said in his book that he "felt sick" about his brother's reaction.

However, the Prince of Wales seemed to change his mind and the two brothers went side-by-side to greet the crowds before the royal wedding.

Speaking of what may have changed his brother's mind, Harry speculated in his memoir that "maybe Granny intervened".

The Duke of Sussex also claims he pressed William about having dinner together and staying the night before his big day.

He alleges that his older brother agreed to dinner but said he would not be staying over as he told Harry: "Sorry, Harold. Can't. Kids."

After celebrating their fifth anniversary on Saturday, fans were likely to be disappointed that the couple did not mark their special day with a message or new picture.

It is possible that the Sussexes' celebrated the occasion in private with their two young kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

The Duke and Duchess made two high-profile public appearances together in the States during the past week after they were spotted at an NBA basketball game in LA a few weeks ago.

Harry and Meghan cemented their interest in their new community after they met with a local youth group in Santa Barbara last Monday.

The royal couple visited AHA! Santa Barbara "to learn first hand about this generation’s experiences with social media and societal pressures, and how it affects their mental well-being".

They were snapped taking part in a discussion with group members regarding the opportunities and disadvantages social media can offer to younger generations.

On Tuesday last week, the Duchess was given the Ms Foundation's Women of Vision Award for her "global advocacy to empower and advocate on behalf of women and girls".

Harry and Meghan's mother Doria Ragland accompanied her at the anniversary gala event in New York.

Meghan delivered an inspirational acceptance speech to close the gala as she said: "It's never too late to start. You can be the visionary of your own life.

"There is still so much work to be done. I am a woman who remains inspired and driven by this organisation.

"It allowed me to recognise that part of my greater value and purpose in life was to advocate for those who felt unheard, to stand up to injustice, and to not be afraid of saying what is true and what is just and what is right."
