Prince Harry says he will 'make sure the Queen is protected'

Prince Harry has revealed in a TV interview that he plans to "make sure the Queen is protected" and "has the right people around her." Speaking on a recent edition of NBC's Today show The Duke of Sussex also revealed that the monarch - who turns 96 tomorrow (Thursday, April 21) - is currently "on great form" despite ongoing mobility problems.

The Duke explained that he and his wife Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, had called in to see his grandmother at Windsor Castle last week whilst en route to the Netherlands for the Invictus Games, of which he's a private patron. The visit is thought to be the first time the couple have visited the UK together since they stepped back from royal duties in early 2020.

37-year-old Harry, who was not at the memorial service for his grandfather Phillip, the Duke of Edinburgh, in London last month, also saw Prince Charles while they were in town. "Being with her (the Queen), it was great," he said.

"It was so nice to see her, she's on great form. She's always got such a great sense of humour with me and I'm just making sure she's protected and got the right people around her."

He also used the chat to describe America as his home "for the time being," adding he'd been welcomed there "with open arms." The full interview is expected to air in the US soon.

Meanwhile, the Queen has been forced to pull out of several recent events, including a traditional Easter Sunday church service. Her increasingly frailty is said to be the reason for the no-shows.

Whilst at The Hague Harry will be joined by a film crew which is currently shooting Heart Of Invictus, a Netflix series about the celebrated adaptive sports event. The year's bash will see 500 injured and sick military personnel and veterans from 20 nations all compete for glory, the aim being to promote their recovery, rehabilitation and wider understanding of their situation.
