Prince Harry says he doesn’t have many early memories of Diana but always remembers her ‘cheeky laugh’

Prince Harry has revealed he doesn’t have many early memories of his mother Princess Diana but remembers her trying to protect him.

Speaking in his explosive Netflix documentary, released Thursday morning, Prince Harry said: “I don’t have many early memories of my mum.

“It’s almost like internally I’ve blocked them out. But I always remember her laugh, her cheeky laugh.

“And she always said to me, if you get into trouble just don’t get caught. And I’ll always be that cheeky person inside.”

Speaking in the first episode of the documentary series, three episodes of which launched on Thursday, the Duke said his childhood was “filled with laughter, filled with happiness and filled with adventure”.

However, he spoke of the pressure of growing up in the spotlight of the world’s press, saying: “My mum did such a good job of trying to protect us. She basically took it upon herself to basically confront these people.”

The prince also opened up about the impact of losing his mother in a car crash in Paris when he was aged just twelve in 1997.

Both Prince Harry and Prince William walked behind Princess Diana’s coffin in full view of the world’s media.

“When my mum died, we had two hats to wear,” he said. “One was two grieving sons who wanted to cry, grieve, and process that grief because of losing our mum.

“And two was the royal hats, no emotion, get out there, meet the people and shake their hands.

“An expectation to see William and myself out and about was really hard for the two of us.”

The first episode of the documentary also focussed on Harry and Meghan’s relationship which began in 2016.

Prince Harry revealed first spotted Meghan on a friend’s Instagram.

He said: "I was scrolling through my feed and someone who was a friend had this video of the two of them, it was like a Snapchat."

“That was the first thing. I was like ‘who is that?"’

The documentary series deal is reportedly worth up to $100m. A futher three episodes are due to be released next Thursday.
