Prince Harry's second date with Meghan Markle was 'bittersweet', so he bought her a gift

It was a whirlwind romance for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, with both smitten after just one date.

The couple managed to keep their courtship under wraps for several months after being introduced by a mutual friend.

Their first date took place just over seven years ago when they met for drinks at 76 Dean Street in Soho, London.

Harry didn't create the best impression after traffic caused him to be late, but both "giggled endlessly" - and another meet-up was on the cards just a day later.

Their second date took place exactly seven years ago, on July 4, when they met up again in London.

And in their controversial Netflix series Harry & Meghan, the duchess revealed how Harry described it as a "bittersweet" celebration.

Reading aloud the stirring speech she read at their wedding two years later, Meghan said that while July 4 is an important day for Americans, it was also a poignant date in their romance.

Meghan said in her speech: "They have their second date and he brings her cupcakes because it's 4 July. 'A bittersweet celebration,' he says. Ironic really.

"Her country's independence from his country. Yet in this moment, they know they don't want to be independent from each other."

After their second date, they spent a romantic holiday in Botswana before committing to a long-distance romance between London and Toronto, where Meghan was filming Suits.

It's unknown exactly what plans Harry and Meghan have for the July 4 holiday this year but will no doubt spend it with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Last year, they were seen watching the July 4 parade in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, with three Archie as well as members of a security team and friends.

Pictures of the couple enjoying the trip were shared on social media, although they were later deleted.

Harry, 37, seemed to be wearing a polo shirt and dark trousers, while Meghan chose skinny jeans, a white Fedora and a white tank top for the visit.

Archie, meanwhile, was very patriotic, clad in a red, white and blue cap as he held an American flag while enjoying a lollipop.
