Prince Harry's poignant reason for 'move back to the UK' with Meghan Markle

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could be planning a move back to the UK, a former royal butler has claimed.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex quit Britain when they stepped down from their roles as senior working royals for a new life in America.

Initially moving to Canada before re-locating to Montecito in California during the Covid pandemic, the couple have returned to the UK just a handful of times.

Both attended the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations, where they also celebrated the first birthday of their youngest child, Lilibet, in their former British base of Frogmore Cottage.

Harry and Meghan returned following the Queen's death but the prince attended his father, King Charles', Coronation alone, with his wife choosing to stay behind in the States as the weekend was also their son Archie's birthday.

The duke spent just a few hours at the ceremony and skipped both the royal family lunch and Coronation Concert so he could return to California and be with his family to mark his eldest child's birthday.

But now, there are claims the couple could be looking to set up a base in Britain by buying a property so they can visit more often.

King Charles' former butler, Grant Harrold, told the New York Post : "I'd never say never, it's always possible that one day he might want to come home, it's possible that he might buy [a property] here if he wanted to come over [more] and Meghan didn't want to come over.

"Meghan doesn't really have any family here as such, all her family are in the States and that's where Harry has decided he wants to set up his home."

Harry was born in raised in Britain and Grant thinks his ties to his home country will be too tough for the duke to sever.

He explained: "He'll want to have that association with Britain just in case one day he does want to come back and I don't think Harry will want to sever ties."

However, Grant, speaking on behalf of speaking on behalf of Oddspedia, did admit the duke seemed "happy in the States" and that any return to the UK wouldn't be soon, although stressed it remained "very possible".

The couple have been at odds with the royal family since their shock decision to raise their family on their own terms away from the UK.

Prince Harry's memoir, Spare, contained a number of revelations about his time as a senior working royal and in a speech following the release of his book the duke said its publication "freedom".

The couple also took part in a bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey and have their own Netflix documentary series, showing their new life following their step back from royal life.
