Prince Harry's ITV interview set for Happy Valley 'snub' as viewers pick sides

Many viewers have declare they're ready to 'snub' Prince Harry, in favour of watching the new series of Happy Valley on Sunday night.

After all the teasers and all the hype, the Duke of Sussex's sit down with ITV journalist Tom Bradby will finally go out on ITV1 at 9pm on January 8, exactly the same time slot occupied by smash hit drama Happy Valley over on BBC One. With revelations from Harry's interview, including claims of an altercation between him and brother Prince William and doubts cast over his attendance at father King Charles' coronation, the interview looks set to make compelling viewing, days before the release of Harry's explosive memoir Spare, which like the interview, has already been hitting headlines across the globe.

Making its return last weekend, almost seven years after its last series aired, Happy Valley has also been attracting plenty of attention of its own, with an audience of around 7 million tuning in for the opening episode of its third and final series on New Year's Day and lead actress Sarah Lancashire once again in fine form as troubled but determined cop Catherine Cawood.

A teaser for Sunday's Happy Valley reads: "When Catherine discovers the remains of a gangland murder victim in a drained reservoir, it sparks a chain of events that bizarrely leads her straight back to Tommy Lee Royce."

And Sergeant Cawood looks set to give Prince Harry quite a battle in the ratings, particularly given the mood on Twitter is that many people will pick Happy Valley over the Tom Bradby interview. Making their choice abundantly clear, one viewer posted: "Groan Prince Harry doing an interview for 90 minutes on Sunday on ITV i for one will be watching Happy Valley," with another tweeting: "Interesting clash of the TV schedules tomorrow. Happy Harry or Happy Valley. I'll be watching the latter."

Equally in the Happy Valley corner, another posted: "am so pleased Happy Valley is on BBC at 9 on Sunday I have really had enough of Harry and it’s still not clear what he hopes to gain from all this," with a fourth writing: "I am so pleased Happy Valley is on BBC at 9 on Sunday I have really had enough of Harry and it’s still not clear what he hopes to gain from all this."
