Demands Prince Harry made in the hours before the death of the Queen “shocked” the royals, says a new book.
The Duke of Sussex had been in the UK by chance to attend the WellChild Awards, when the monarch suddenly fell ill.
In a race against time, he boarded a plane and flew north alone to be at her bedside.
Tragically, the Queen had died before he could arrive to say goodbye and he was left to hear about the death of the monarch from the BBC ’s website.
However he could have arrived hours earlier with his brother had it not been for his demands wife Meghan join him, says new book Our King: Charles III by Robert Jobson.
A serialisation in the Mail reads : “Prince William, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward – and Edward's wife Sophie, who had been very close to the Queen – arrived at Balmoral at about 5pm, almost two hours too late.
“As for Prince Harry, he didn't turn up until just before 8pm. Close sources said he had decided not to fly up to Scotland with his brother and uncles after a disagreement over his wife, Meghan.
“When Harry insisted that she should accompany him, it was his father who told him she couldn't come.”
Harry’s demands are said to have “not gone down well” with the family who were “shocked by his behaviour”.
The Duke of Sussex earlier spoke of the moment he discovered his beloved grandmother had died in his bestselling book, Spare.
He wrote: “When the plane started to descend, I saw my mobile phone light up.
“It was a message from Meg: 'call me as soon as you read this'. I checked the BBC webpage. My grandmother had died. My father was the King.
“I put on a black tie, stepped off the plane into heavy drizzle.”
Once he arrived in Scotland he was met by Princess Anne and from there went to Balmoral to see the Queen.
He continued in Spare: “I stayed in one place without moving, gazing at her for a long time, gathered strength and continued going forward.”
He added he "whispered to her I hoped she was happy and that she was with grandpa".
