Prince Harry's Battle Against Tabloids Deepens Royal Family Rift

Britain's Prince Harry leaves after attending an Invictus Games Foundation 10th Anniversary Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral in London, on May 8, 2024. Prince Harry said that his

Prince Harry recently opened up about how his ongoing battle against the British tabloids has contributed to the rift within his royal family. In a documentary airing on ITV, the Duke of Sussex revealed that his crusade against media intrusion and privacy violations has been a central factor in the strained relationships within the royal household.

Harry's public fight against the tabloids, which included his testimony in court regarding phone hacking practices, marked a significant departure from the royal family's traditional stance of not engaging with the press. The duke expressed his disappointment that his family did not support him in his legal actions against media organizations.

Aside from the lawsuits against tabloids, Harry's decision to step back from royal duties and move to the United States with his wife, Meghan, also contributed to the family tensions. The couple cited media intrusions and racist attitudes towards Meghan, who is biracial, as reasons for their departure.

During the documentary, actor Hugh Grant and former Prime Minister Gordon Brown also shared their experiences with media intrusion and legal battles against tabloids. Grant, who settled a lawsuit against a tabloid for a substantial sum, emphasized the need for accountability among media executives who commission unethical practices.

Prince Harry's lawsuit against News Group Newspapers is ongoing, as he continues to seek justice for privacy violations. He expressed his desire for his family to take a stand against media offenses for the greater good, despite facing backlash from the press for speaking out.

As the tabloid battle continues, Prince Harry remains committed to his mission of holding media organizations accountable for their actions and protecting his family's privacy.
