Prince Harry Reveals ‘Worst Fears Confirmed’ In Legal Fight Over Security Removal

Prince Harry has opened up about the emotional toll of his ongoing legal battle over security, revealing that his “worst fears have been confirmed” during the hearings at London’s Royal Courts of Justice earlier this week.

Harry’s fight centres around the UK government’s decision to strip him and Meghan Markle of automatic state-funded security after they stepped back from royal duties in 2020.

This decision has been a sore point for the prince, who believed his security would remain intact when he departed the infamous Sandringham Summit in January 2020.

At the time, even Queen Elizabeth II had expressed her support for their need for “effective security,” citing the couple’s history of being targeted by extremists. But just a month later, the government committee responsible for such decisions, known as RAVEC, informed them otherwise.

The prince has alleged that this move wasn’t just about cutting costs but was a deliberate attempt to control him and Meghan — a tactic to force them back into the royal fold. “We were trying to create this happy house,” Harry explained to PEOPLE, referencing their initial proposal to live abroad while continuing to support the monarchy.

Instead, the removal of security became a breaking point for Harry, who admitted that realising the lengths people were willing to go was “difficult to swallow”.

During the two-day appeal hearing, Harry’s legal team argued that RAVEC had deviated from its standard procedures and subjected him to “different, unjustified, and inferior treatment”. They pointed out that other high-profile figures like pop stars and former prime ministers still enjoy similar protections under the “Other VIP Category”.

Shaheed Fatima KC, Harry’s lawyer, emphasised how deeply personal this case is for him: “There is a person sitting behind me whose safety, whose security and whose life is at stake.”

The hearings were largely held behind closed doors due to sensitive information being discussed. However, Harry shared with The Telegraph that some of what he learned during these sessions was profoundly unsettling.

“People would be shocked by what’s being held back,” he said.

Harry believes members of the Royal Household involved in RAVEC could have intervened on his behalf but chose not to. His relationship with King Charles remains strained. PEOPLE have reported that insiders say Charles no longer answers Harry’s calls or letters. Similarly, attempts to reconnect with Prince William have gone unanswered.

Despite these challenges, Harry remains determined. The three judges overseeing his appeal have reserved their judgment, which could take weeks. But regardless of the outcome, Harry has made it clear he won’t stop fighting for what he believes is right.

Harry says he is “driven by exposing injustice” and is determined to “get under the bonnet and fix it”.
