Prince Harry reveals tense text message exchange between Meghan and Kate in bridesmaid dress row

Prince Harry has revealed a series of tense text messages between his wife Meghan Markle and sister-in-law Kate Middleton in a row over a bridesmaid dress for the couple's 2018 wedding.

In his new memoir Spare, Harry claims that Kate was not happy that she had to wait a day to hear back from Meghan about getting Princess Charlotte's bridesmaid dress adjusted. The stress of juggling the issue alongside dealing with the "chaos" caused by her father Thomas Markle ahead of the big day caused Meghan to end up "sobbing on the floor", the Duke of Sussex added.

According to Harry, Kate felt Meghan's suggestion that Charlotte's dress be brought to a tailor on standby at Kensington Palace to be altered "wasn't sufficient". When Kate told Meghan that her daughter had been left in tears by the state of her dress, a tense row erupted between the pair over text which has been detailed by Harry in his book, The Mirror reports.

The Prince reports that Kate messaged Meghan: "Charlotte's dress is too big, too long, too baggy. She cried when she tried it on a home."

Meghan then replied: "Right, and I told you the tailor has been standing by since 8am. Here. At KP (Kensington Palace). Can you take Charlotte to have it altered, as the other mums are doing?"

But Kate reportedly refused, sending back: "No, all the dresses need to be remade."

"I'm not sure what else to say," Meghan texted in reply, according to the string of messages published by Harry. "If the dress doesn't fit then please take Charlotte to see (tailor) Ajay. He's been waiting all day."

"Fine," was apparently Kate's clipped response. The Princess of Wales celebrated her 41st birthday on Monday, coinciding with a series of explosive TV interviews with Harry ahead of the release of his tell-all memoir.

The interviews contained several shocking revelations from the Duke, including an accusation directed towards Kate and his brother Prince William that they didn't get along with Meghan "from the get-go". He said: "I don’t think they were ever expecting me to get into a relationship with someone like Meghan, who had, you know, a very successful career. There was a lot of stereotyping that was happening."

Pushed on what he meant by that, Harry continued: "American actress, and that was playing out in the British press in the media at the time as well. I had that in the back of my mind, and some of the things that my brother and sister-in-law – some of the way that they were acting or behaving definitely felt to me as though unfortunately that stereotyping was causing a bit of a barrier to them really sort of, you know, introducing or welcoming her in."
