Prince Harry misses his 'best man's' wedding as he appears to be absent from ceremony

Prince Harry's 'best man' and close friend tied the knot this weekend but the Duke sadly did not return the favour for his pal as he did not attend the ceremony.

Harry and Meghan tied the knot during their fairytale royal wedding in 2018 and there were indications at the time that Jack Mann was more than just an usher but was actually his 'real' best man as opposed to Prince William.

Because of this, many were disappointed to learn of the Sussexes' absence over the weekend when Mann celebrated his own big day.

Mann, 40 and his wife Isabella Clark tied the knot at St Peter's Church in Stutton over the weekend.

Notable guests included Thomas van Straubenzee who is a close friend of Prince Harry and the godfather of Princess Charlotte, the Express reports.

He was accompanied by his wife Lucy who works as an assistant head at Thomas's, the former school that Prince George and Princess Charlotte attended.

Harry and Mann's level of friendship remains uncertain as they became pals during their time at Sandhurst when they were both commissioned into the Blues and Royals.

In the Duke's tell-all memoir Spare which came out in January of this year, Harry disclosed that he had fallen out with certain old acquaintances after he publicly criticised the Royal Family on television.

While Mann may have been considered as the secret best man, Prince William actually filled that position and at the time the Palace said he was “honoured to have been asked, and is very much looking forward to supporting his brother at St George's Chapel”.

This marks a departure from the royal tradition of referring to the best man position as a "supporter".

For example, during Charles' wedding to Princess Diana in 1981, he selected his two younger brothers, Andrew and Edward as his supporters.

According to royal expert Marlene Koenig, Prince William's role as best man didn't differ significantly from those of any other individual with that responsibility.

His main task was to make sure the wedding proceedings ran smoothly.

Ms Koenig said at the time: “The two brothers are close in age and close friends.

“They depend on each other and trust each other.”

She claims William was specifically in charge of offering Harry “moral support, [holding] the ring, and being a good big brother, and, of course, hosting the inevitable stag party.”

Meanwhile, in another chapter of Harry's controversial memoir he revealed that he was not in fact William's real best man either and that it was a façade put on for the public eye.

William's close pals James Meade and Thomas van Straubenzee, were the best men the Prince claims.

He wrote: “The public had been told that I was to be best man, but that was a bare-faced lie.

“The public expected me to be best man, and thus the Palace saw no choice but to say that I was.

“In truth, Willy didn’t want me giving a best-man speech.

"He didn’t think it safe to hand me a live mic and put me in a position to go off script. I might say something wildly inappropriate. He wasn’t wrong.”
