Prince Harry, Meghan Markle evicted from Frogmore Cottage to make room for Prince Andrew, report says

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are being asked to leave their royal residence at Frogmore Cottage in England.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who moved to California in 2020 after stepping down from their duties as part of the royal family, still had the cottage as their official residence in the U.K., until now.

A spokesperson for the royal couple’s Archewell Foundation, which focuses on philanthropic work that “unites and uplifts communities,” confirmed the report Wednesday to People.

King Charles III plans to move his brother Prince Andrew to the Windsor residence, according to a report published Monday by The Sun.

Andrew, the second son of Queen Elizabeth, stepped back from public duties over his ties to the late Jeffrey Epstein. He currently resides at the Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park, which is significantly larger than Frogmore.

Harry and Meghan first moved to Frogmore in 2019 in preparation for the birth of their son, Archie Harrison. They previously lived at Nottingham Cottage on the grounds of Kensington Palace.

After deciding to move to California a year later, the couple still viewed Frogmore as their home. When the cottage needed renovations, Prince Harry was said to have “fully covered” the nearly $3 million it cost to update the abode.

Typically in situations such as those, the royal family will use money from the Sovereign Grant, a U.K. fund that is fueled by taxpayers. Harry covering the cost himself was said to be part of his and Meghan’s plan to be financially independent of the crown.

Prince Harry’s cousin, Princess Eugenie, moved into Frogmore in 2021 when she was expecting her first son with husband Jack Brooksbank. At the time, a source said that “Frogmore Cottage continues to be the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s residence in the U.K., and they are delighted to be able to open up their home to Princess Eugenie and Jack as they start their own family.”

When the Duke and Duchess returned to the U.K. last June for Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee, they stayed at the cottage.
