Prince Harry left out of Sandhurst guide to most notable graduates

Prince Harry has not been included in a book celebrating the Sandhurst's top 200 alumni.

The Duke of Sussex was left out of the guide called They Also Served, by Vaughan Kent-Payne, despite his brother William being included and writing the foreword.

Harry completed a 44-week training course at the campus in Camberley, Surrey, in 2005 before becoming an Officer Cadet the next year.

He served two tours in Afghanistan where he acted as a Forward Air Controller from 2007 to 2008 and qualified as an Apache Pilot from 2012 to 2013, while being promoted to Captain in 2011.

The Duke is famously proud of his time in the military and has set up the Invictus Games to honour wounded servicemen.

But he caused major controversy when his memoir Spare was published last January, detailing how he killed 25 Taliban fighters.

He also wrote that he had been trained to see those he killed as “chess pieces” rather than people.

This was after Harry had already been stripped of his three ceremonial titles in 2021, when he and his wife Meghan Markle quit as working royals and moved to the US.

Former British Army Commander Richard Kemp told The Sun: I probably would have included Harry, on balance, but it is not a disappointment to not see him in there.

"I don’t think he did anything particularly notable during his service but he was certainly a significant person to go to Sandhurst.

“I suspect the recent disharmony between him and the Royal Family has led them to decide against having him.”

Mr Kemp went on to insist that British soldiers are not taught “to see the enemy as less than human”.

Proceeds from the £28 book They Also Served will go to The Sandhurst Trust, the official charity for alumni of the academy.

A Sandhurst Spokesperson said: “The book highlights the breadth of accomplishments and experiences across Sandhurst graduates rather than just focusing on the most well-known.”
